Over the last week, Ron Paul has been on Fox Business to offer a solution to this ridiculous problem that won’t merely be fixed by crony “privatization” (when a government-favored corporation takes over all airport security) or a one-size-fits-all solution. Paul instead believes that each airline is responsible for its own business and therefore (one assumes) has a vested interest in making sure that their customers are happy and satisfied.
Assuming, that airlines don’t want damage to their reputations, planes, employees or customers they should each -logically- be responsible for the task of balancing security and customer satisfaction. And if the TSA was dismantled and the airlines were in charge of security- there would be competition. Their profits and losses would show what consumers wanted. At this point, the TSA has no incentive to make anyone happy and there is large turnover among agents. It’s just another government run agency, no one should be surprised by the results.
And we see it all over too, from the VA hospitals, to government schools and roads, or anything else that our government has monopolized. What would it be like if the marketplace was motivated by its customers?
