A group of farmers in Nebraska has touched our hearts and restored our faith in humanity.
David’s ancestor had sold off the 80-acre farm that had been their family’s property for decades. The ancestor did not have their best interest in mind when he sold it, and the rest of the family was very upset. And David was determined to win it back.
RELATED STORY:
When the land came up for sale again through auction, David and his dad made a plan to do whatever was needed to get the farm.
Over 200 farmers were present on the day of the auction. David and his dad believed their chances were slim to win the auction, but decided to give it their best shot.
When the auctioneer began bidding, David and his father placed their bid, and not a single one of the other farmers spoke up.
RELATED STORY:
In fact, hundreds of farmers kept quiet during the auction so that David and his father could win the bid and buy back their family’s farm. They all had a change of heart about the farm, and decided not to bid so David could buy it back for his family.
RELATED STORY:
After three tries and getting no response from a single farmer, the auctioneer slammed down his gavel and handed David and his father the winning bid. David said:
“I’ve had two profoundly humbling days in my life. The first was the day my son was born. The second was that unforgettable day at the auction house.”1
What a heartwarming display of solidarity by the farmers towards this family, this beautiful act of kindness has melted our hearts.
