If you’ve ever wondered if life was possible without sugar, this story will both inspire AND confirm all your suspicions. Almost 30 years ago, Carolyn Hartz gave up the poisonous white stuff after years of being ‘addicted’ (and after a pre-diabetes diagnosis).1 The grandmother-of-four credits her sugar-free diet and daily exercise for her youthful looks (and she does look amazing). In fact, she has a body most women half her age would kill for. 2

She says about her lifestyle:

“It was difficult at first as I was a sugar addict but I believe it is one of the most important reasons I have been able to keep myself healthy and keep my body in shape. I make sure I eat protein with every meal, especially breakfast. It stops the cravings.

We know our metabolism slows down as we get older. It just means we have to take control and make healthier choices and work a little harder. I believe it is very important to be aware of the type of food you eat and the quantity of food you eat. Being mindful while you are eating is a huge factor.”2

In the video below you’ll notice Hartz is still a fan of baking and even has her own youtube channel and sweetener company, her favorite being Xylitol, an all-natural sugar substitute, which can be found in berries and some vegetables.

Besides eating well and exercising, she tries to get at least eight hours of sleep a night and has done so for most of her life, noting, “…it is when our body heals and rejuvenates.”

But, her most crucial piece of advice is this: “Be happy for everyone and never worry about your age. Train yourself to see the glass as half full. The day is partially sunny, not partially cloudy.”3

Sounds good to us.
