NYT: Roundup Maker to Pay $10B to Settle Cancer Suits

Bayer, the world’s largest seed and pesticide maker, has agreed to pay more than $10 billion to settle tens of thousands of claims in the United States that its weedkiller Roundup causes cancer, the company said Wednesday. Bayer, which also makes pharmaceuticals, inherited thousands of lawsuits against Roundup creator Monsanto Co. when it acquired the U.S. agriculture giant in 2018. NYT: Women With Cancer Awarded Billions in Baby Powder Suit

On Tuesday, a Missouri appeals court ordered Johnson & Johnson and a subsidiary to pay $2.1 billion in damages to women who blamed their ovarian cancers on the company’s talcum products, including its iconic baby powder. In July 2018, a record $4.69 billion in compensatory and punitive damages was awarded to the women. Today’s ruling slashed that decision by more than half.
