NYT: Amazon Will Acquire Self-Driving Start-Up Zoox For Over $1.2BN

Amazon will acquire self-driving start-up Zoox for more than $1.2bn, marking the e-commerce group’s most significant investment into the autonomous vehicle sector. In competition with Alphabet’s Waymo, Amazon plans to work with Zoox to create a fleet of self-driving taxis. Analysts also hinted that Amazon might use Zoox to build self-driving delivery vehicles. Bayer, the world’s largest seed and pesticide maker, has agreed to pay more than $10 billion to settle tens of thousands of claims in the United States that its weedkiller Roundup causes cancer, the company said Wednesday. Bayer, which also makes pharmaceuticals, inherited thousands of lawsuits against Roundup creator Monsanto Co. when it acquired the U.S. agriculture giant in 2018. On Tuesday, a Missouri appeals court ordered Johnson & Johnson and a subsidiary to pay $2.1 billion in damages to women who blamed their ovarian cancers on the company’s talcum products, including its iconic baby powder.
