High Court To Review Nestlé, Cargill Child Slavery Suits

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Thursday to hear Nestlé and Cargill’s challenges to a Ninth Circuit ruling leaving the companies on the hook for allegations that they benefited from African child labor. NYT: Amazon Will Acquire Self-Driving Start-Up Zoox For Over $1.2BN

Amazon will acquire self-driving start-up Zoox for more than $1.2bn, marking the e-commerce group’s most significant investment into the autonomous vehicle sector. In competition with Alphabet’s Waymo, Amazon plans to work with Zoox to create a fleet of self-driving taxis. Analysts also hinted that Amazon might use Zoox to build self-driving delivery vehicles. NYT: Roundup Maker to Pay $10B to Settle Cancer Suits

Bayer, the world’s largest seed and pesticide maker, has agreed to pay more than $10 billion to settle tens of thousands of claims in the United States that its weedkiller Roundup causes cancer, the company said Wednesday. NYT: Women With Cancer Awarded Billions in Baby Powder Suit

On Tuesday, a Missouri appeals court ordered Johnson & Johnson and a subsidiary to pay $2.1 billion in damages to women who blamed their ovarian cancers on the company’s talcum products, including its iconic baby powder.
