Yahoo: Texas doctor claims female physicians ‘do not work as hard’ as male docs do

It seems some men still haven’t gotten the memo that women will no longer be treated like second-class citizens. Last month, in an issue devoted to women in medicine, the Dallas Medical Journal asked area doctors what they thought of the fact that female physicians’ salaries are reportedly one-third less than male physicians 1 and one male doc gave a candid and irresponsible response that has the medical community up in arms. (And rightfully so.) Gary Tigges, an internal medicine doctor at Plano Internal Medicine Associates said, “Female physicians do not work as hard and do not see as many patients as male physicians. This...

With daily low-dose aspirin use, risks may outweigh benefits, new research says

It’s one of those sentences that everyone knows by the time they hit early adulthood, “An aspirin a day keeps the doctor away.” But does it? Well, according to a trio of studies published Sunday in the New England Journal of Medicine, no. Turns out that one daily low-dose aspirin doesn’t provide any significant health benefits. Instead, it may actually cause serious harm. “The primary study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial — considered the gold standard for clinical trials. Researchers at Monash University in Australia recruited nearly 20,000 people in that country and the United States, with a median age of 74....

Canadian testing shows glyphosate contamination in popular food products

Independent testing commissioned by the Coalition for Action on Toxics has found glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, in common children’s lunch foods and snacks sold in Canada. The foods affected were Cheerios, Tim Hortons Timbits and bagels, Catelli multigrain spaghetti and Fontaine Santé hummus. (Chickpea and wheat-based products were among the highest contaminated likely because they are often sprayed with glyphosate weeks before harvest.) “In a much larger study conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, glyphosate was found in more than 30 percent of food products tested, and in some cases was above Health Canada’s “safe” limits of...

Weather Channel reporter filmed being overly-dramatic as men in shorts casually stroll by

While we totally understand that the news cycle is 24 hours now and competition between networks exists, even this was a stretch. I mean, over-exaggerate and you just might get caught: “Mike Seidel is a Weather Channel reporter who was out and about in North Carolina covering Hurricane Florence. Whilst shooting in Wilmington he was kitted out with the typical cagoule and waterproof trousers that are presumably standard issue when being sent to cover a major weather event. He looked as if he was struggling, too. He was standing in a massively wide stance, seemingly bracing himself against the...
