Canada Makes it Illegal to Remove Passengers from Overbooked Planes

Thanks in large part to all the problems surrounding air travel of late, Canada has taken some bold steps to protect passengers. From now on, no one who has bought a ticket for a domestic or international flight in the country will be allowed to be removed because of overbooking, thanks to their new passenger bill of rights. Once again, someone else has done something we should do and yet, probably never will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpCSC1W623I Transportation minister Marc Garneau said if flights are overbooked and the airline can’t find a volunteer with the compensation they are offering, they will simply have...

GM moths to be released in New York State?

In an attempt to reduce the population of diamondback moths Cornell University has applied for a permit to execute the world’s first open-air trial of a GM version of the insect. The moths will be engineered with a female lethality trait which will leave female larvae dead and allow males to reproduce until the population is destroyed. Diamondback moths are particularly troublesome to the Brassica family of plants in the southern US, UK, parts of Europe, South and Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Africa (although not particularly in New York State). According to a front-page exposé in The Washington Post, Aurora Dairy has been operating illegally. And now, based on that evidence, The Cornucopia Institute has filed formal legal complaints against Aurora Dairy and their organic certifier, the Colorado Department of Agriculture. (They even went so far as to write to the Trump administration’s new USDA Secretary, Sonny Perdue, to ask for the removal of the agency’s lead organic regulator.) Aurora Dairy is the largest supplier of store-brand, organic milk in the U.S. You can find their products at Walmart, Costco, Target, and other major supermarket chains (for their own...

Chris Cornell’s Death Ruled Suicide By Hanging

(Note from Erin: I last saw Chris in Miami in 2004 with my old friend Anne. The show was magical…heart goes out to his family and friends.) Chris Cornell, the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, has died aged 52. The rock world is both feeling and mourning his loss this morning. While the cause of death is still undetermined, they are investigating it as a possible suicide. Cornell was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and one of the “chief architects of the grunge movement, forming Soundgarden alongside guitarist Kim Thyail and bassist Hiro Yamamoto in 1984.” He...
