ABC: Monsanto’s “Roundup” can be Labeled with Cancer Warning in California

(This is good news! No, Monsanto won’t take this ruling lying down but let’s hope California becomes the first of many states to outlaw this dangerous and toxic chemical which has been wrecking havoc on people and the environment for more than a decade.) On Friday, a judge in California tentatively ruled that the state can now require Monsanto to label Roundup (with the main ingredient of glyphosate) as a possible cancer threat. If California does this, they will be the first state to order such labeling. (You can bet Monsanto is seething right now.) From the article: “Monsanto attorney...

2-Mile-Long Mysterious Crack Found in Arizona Desert

Recently, a geological survey was conducted in the desert of Arizona and during the survey, the drone used found a roughly 2-mile long crack. While it isn’t the first crevice to form in the area, it certainly is the longest. The Arizona Geological Survey estimates that the fissure started forming in 2014 after heavy rainfall but that the southern half of the fissure seems to be newer (perhaps as recent as 2016). The Arizona Geological Survey says: “Earth fissures are tension cracks that open as the result of subsidence due to severe overdrafts (i.e., pumping) of groundwater. As the ground...

From the article: “In talks with investigators, both suspects admitted to talking about the plan, and both mentioned the deadly 1999 mass shooting at Colorado’s Columbine High School, a massacre that...

Fallopian Tubes May Have Big Role in Ovarian Cancer Fight

Research is increasingly pointing to the possibility that some of the most aggressive ovarian cancers begin in the fallopian tubes. In fact, most doctors are now in favor of simply removing the tubs of women who are done bearing children because it might prevent cancer. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest gynecologic cancers in the US, is often diagnosed in the late stages, and kills 14,000 women a year. And sadly, the routine screening tests to identify it early have largely have been discredited. But, are there risks associated with removing the fallopian tubes, known as salpingectomy? According to a...

Nat Geo: Human-Pig Hybrids Have Been Created in the Lab

Scientists announced this week that they have created the first successful human-animal hybrid. The project now establishes that human cells can be introduced into a non-human organism (in this case a pig), survive, and grow inside a host animal. This advance in science has been a long time coming and a dream of many. Because someone is added every ten minutes to the national waiting list for organ transplants, this new discovery might help to ease our critical shortage of donor organs. An international team of researchers, led by the Salk Institute, published their findings in the journal Cell,...
