Shoppers Drug Mart Applied to be one of the First Retailers to Distribute Medical Marijuana

Shoppers Drug Mart says it has submitted an application to be a distributor of medical marijuana.  A spokeswoman says in an email that the drug store chain has applied to Health Canada to become a licensed medical marijuana producer – but only for the purpose of distributing the drug. Tammy Smitham says Shoppers has “no intention” of producing cannabis. The application is an administrative requirement to be able to distribute the drug. However, even if Shoppers’ application is granted, the retailer won’t be permitted to dispense the drug through its stores unless the government updates the regulations. Vet Dies With Maggots Crawling In His Wound, Four Employees At VA Hospital Immediately Resign

On October 3, a veteran at the Talihina Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs center was found to have maggots in his wound. He died shortly after. Four employees, a physician’s assistant and three nurses, have resigned as a result. It was confirmed by the Talihina director, Myles Deering, that the maggots didn’t enter the wound after the patient died but rather were present while the patient was still alive. Victory! U.S. Court of Appeals Votes to Allow Local Governments to BAN GMO Crops

Regardless of everyone’s best efforts, it’s incredibly easy for GM crops to contaminate fields both near and several miles away. And this is especially problematic for those who do NOT want to grow GM food. The most problematic crops are canola and corn; pollen drift causes changes to nearby organic and non-GMO crops and because even trace amounts of contamination can cause crops to be rejected overseas, the financial consequences can be disastrous. But that’s not all, farmers also have to worry about lawsuits from pollination over drift from “patented” plants. (Which is shameful, quite frankly.) Because of these and...

They gave them eye examinations, took blood samples and interviewed them about their health and behavior over the years, estimating exposure to ultraviolet B rays.” The team found: Those with the highest UVB exposure, especially as teenagers and young adults, had around a 30 percent lower risk for myopia than those with the lowest exposure. When a subject had...

Nestle Half-a-Billion in the Hole After India Sues Over Lead Content

It is always hard to tell who will emerge victorious from huge legal court battles and when one side is a large multinational corporation, facing off against legal proceedings from a nation that is a burgeoning global power, the conflict will be even more protracted and aggressive. This is what happened however when India took Nestle to court after some lab tests unearthed that Maggi noodles contained a much greater amount of lead in them than is legal. The government took action by submitting a claim to the nation’s highest consumer court, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC)...
