REUTERS: Illegal Loggers Murder Amazon Forest Guardian

Illegal loggers shot and killed an indigenous defender of Brazil‘s Amazon rainforest, the Guajajara tribe announced Saturday, as Reuters reported. Paulo Paulino Guajajara, in his 20s, was a member of the Guajajara group Guardians of the Forest, which was formed in 2012 to protect the Araribóia reservation in Brazil’s Maranhão state. CNN: China Approves Seaweed-Based Alzheimer’s Drug. It’s the First New One in 17 Years

A seaweed-based drug that could treat early forms of Alzheimer’s disease was approved by Chinese authorities. It’s the first drug in 17 years to treat the neurological disorder. It’s called Oligomannate and can be used to treat mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. The product was created based on how older adults who regularly ate seaweed showed a lower occurrence of the disease, according to the South China Morning Post.
