Researchers get green light to genetically modify human embryos

(Editor’s note: I wonder how people will feel about this. So many people seem to have no issues with eating GMO food, but what about GMO babies?) Today is a history making day; scientists in London have been granted permission to edit the genomes of human embryos for research. This approval, by the UK’s Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), represents the world’s first endorsement of such research- by any national regulatory authority. The Francis Crick Institute may now begin (what many are calling controversial experiments) as early as March. Their prime interest is to, “deactivate genes in leftover embryos from IVF clinics to...

Cow who fled Queens slaughterhouse is saved by animal advocates & named Freddie Mercury!

Cow who fled Queens slaughterhouse is saved by animal advocates Now this is a happy story. I don’t know about you but I love it when we have tangible proof that mankind can still do some good. Have you heard about Freddie the Famous Cow? Last Thursday, a poor sweet cow, headed for the slaughter house, broke free and roamed the streets of downtown Jamaica, NY for almost an hour before the cops cornered him in a parking garage. Thankfully, his story made the news so Mike Stura, who created Skylands Animal Sanctuary just last year, waited all night long to bargain for his release. Thank you Mike! From the article by NY Daily News: “I was able to get the owner (of Archer Halal Live Poultry) on the phone right away and at first he was pretty receptive,” said Stura, 49, who lives in Pompton Lakes, N.J. “But he said the animal was promised to a family that had some big event coming up and he would call them. I impressed upon him several times that 38 billion cattle go to the food industry,” added Stura, a truck driver and mechanic. “It’s nice if one lives once in a while.” Thankfully Mike was able to convince the owner to give him the animal. “Freddie, who is named after Freddie Mercury of Queen fame, will now be able (pending clear statue from...

The Sale of Monsanto’s Toxic Weedkiller is Banned in the Netherlands!

Monsanto’s Toxic Weedkiller is Banned in the Netherlands And Monsanto bites the dust. Again. However, considering they probably made the dust because their super-toxic pesticide Roundup killed all our plants and destroyed our earth, it seems fitting. Ok, drama aside, they haven’t destroyed the entire earth yet and another country is putting a stop to them doing any more damage in their country. The government of the Netherlands just banned Roundup. Let that sink it. This is a HUGE victory and one that Monsanto fought every step of the way but the Dutch parliament put its citizens first and...

FDA Fails to Protect Children The Erin Elizabeth, Founder, Health Nut News Nonprofit, Center for Science in the Public Interest, recently released a damning report that blames the FDA for failing to protect children from the behavioral problems that artificial food dyes cause. Since 2011 evidence has continued to grow, highlighting the danger of food dyes. From the article: “Since 2011, eight detailed analyses, including two meta-analyses, concluded that excluding food dyes, or a diet that eliminates dyed foods and certain other foods and ingredients, reduces behavior problems in some children. Furthermore, recent analyses of the dye content of popular foods and...

Update: Walmart supplier is recalling 90,000 lbs of beef

Walmart supplier is recalling 90,000 lbs of beef This may surprise some, but not us here at Health Nut News. The Huisken Meat Company is having to recall some of its Sam’s Choice beef products, sold exclusively at Walmart because they may contain fragments of wood. Wood. Let that sink in. Also interesting to note, the recall is merely a Class II (“This is a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product”) meaning the USDA feels the risk is low. Hungry yet? The recall has been issued...
