New US Dietary Guidelines Crack Down On Sugar, but Red Meat Gets A Pass

New US Dietary Guidelines Crack Down On Sugar The federal government released an updated dietary guideline today but for many of us, the information wasn’t new. It also wasn’t as complete as we would like to see but, baby steps. Their advice focused on ways to prevent chronic illness, how to establish healthy eating plans for a long life, and limiting calories, especially from saturated fats, trans fats and added sugars. In fact, the report issued says that “less than 10 percent of calories per day” (and we currently consume almost twice that much) should come from sugar. The report also points...

Venezuela has banned GMO’s

Venezuela has banned GMO’s On December 23rd, Venezuela approved a law that would apply one of the world’s toughest regulations on GMO’s (genetically modified organisms). Approved by the country’s National Assembly, the law- which is both anti-GMO and anti-patenting seed- will be overseen by a new coalition, the “Roundtable of Democratic Unity”. After years of effort, the law was signed by President Nicolas Maduro and seeks to: consolidate national food sovereignty, regulate the production of hybrid seed, rejects the production, distribution and import of GMO seeds, and will ban transgenic seed research. This law will establish the “National Seed System” and this new group will...

EPA says pesticide doing harm to bees

Pesticide Doing Harm to Bees Honeybees don’t just make honey, they actually pollinate more than 90 flowering crops: citrus, peaches, berries, melons, apples, nuts, avocados, soybeans, asparagus and cucumbers, to name a few. It works out to about one-third of the human diet. These workers are imperative to farming and this is precisely why there has been much discussion and worry about the decline in honeybee populations, or colony collapse, that we’ve seen in recent years. Well, the EPA has finally finished their first study and has just published the results; testing a group of pesticides called “neonicotinoids” and...

Doctor died of ‘blunt force trauma’ to head & ‘must have fallen’, though authorities don’t know from where

Doctor died of ‘blunt force trauma’ to head A few weeks ago, we reported on prominent MD Dr. Christopher Robert, who was walking home from his company Christmas party. Now authorities are saying alcohol allegedly played a role in the “accident” (we imagine there was alcohol at a Christmas party, yes) but alcohol didn’t kill him, they say. What killed Dr. David was “blunt force trauma” to the head, though authorities admit they don’t know from where he fell (we find that bizarre). They say it was an “unwitnessed death” with not one passerby seeing this take place on a...

Monsanto Cutting 1,000 Jobs as Chemical Giant Takes First Annual Loss in 6 Years

Monsanto Cutting 1,000 Jobs by Claire Bernish (links at bottom) St. Louis, MO — Agrichemical behemoth Monsanto plans to cut an additional 1,000 jobs to compensate, in part, for a slump in sales of its genetically-engineered corn seeds. The seeds led to a first quarter loss of $253 million — which, on the whole, represents a 17% drop in revenue. “Monsanto has struggled in recent quarters to deal with slumping corn prices in the U.S., which have reduced demand for its best-selling product: genetically-enhanced [read: modified] corn seeds,” reported ABC News. “Farmers are shifting more acres to other crops...
