We were cautiously optimistic when Amazon bought Whole Foods and told us that prices were gonna drop. And initially, they did drop. However, things have changed: a research firm has been tracking numbers and found that not only have prices been creeping back up but some are even HIGHER than they were before the deal.

Research group Gordon Haskett found that overall, prices at the retail giant only dropped by about 1 percent. It seems the company just marked down the everyday items families buy regularly and increased the prices of other items.

This means if you’re buying staples you might feel like you are getting a deal. But with anything else, it’s probably wise to do a price comparison, “…since the takeover, frozen foods became 7 percent more expensive and the cost of snack items went up by 5.3 percent. Of the 110 items the firm tracked, prices decreased for 17 of them and increased for 16.”1
As supermarket analyst, David J. Livingston, told The Washington Post: “Like all grocery stores, if prices are lowered someplace, prices are raised someplace else.”2
