The next generation of wireless technology is making its way into several cities across the country. Many are worried, and rightly so, about where the towers will go. Cities have very little input or control over how 5G will be implemented, and their concerns are going unnoticed.

The lack of notice is causing residents in Costa Mesa, CA to speak up. They recently told the city council they don’t want 5G cell towers showing up on their streets without any notice. Bryan Estrada, a Costa Mesa resident said:

It’s alarming, and as a public we’re concerned. I’m concerned. I’ve got young kids, and I want to know more and I want to know why these things are just going to be rolled out en masse in front of our homes and have no say or no control in stopping them.”1

RELATED STORY:

Residents requested that the council pass an ordinance designed to control how the towers were rolled out. They fear that without an ordinance, hundreds of towers would be installed next to schools and homes with no prior notification. Monica Draghici, a Costa Mesa resident, said:

“One of the proposed locations is less than 10 feet away from where children go to a preschool. That is not acceptable.”1

RELATED STORY:

The engineer representing cities involved in the 5G rollout said that the radiation emitted from such towers was not a concern. He indicated that the Federal Communications Commission declared it was safe thirty years ago. Yes, you read that correctly – thirty years ago. Unbelievable. The FCC will make the final decision on the location of the proposed towers.

The city attorney said the only way for residents to take action against the proposed 5G towers would be to contact their representatives in congress and work to have the law changed.
