We’ve shared with you in the past that nighttime exposure to blue light can be dangerous (from sleep interference to cancer) but according to experts, one simple and easy fix can remove the danger: change the lights and electronics in your house to show warm colors from dusk to dawn.

RELATED STORY:

Exposure to blue night at night throws off the body’s biological clock and suppresses the release of the sleep hormone melatonin. According to researcher Dr. Charles Czeisler,

“We’ve done studies showing that if we read, for example, from an iPad in the few hours before bedtime, that resets are circadian clock by about an hour-and-a-half later.

Shifting our circadian rhythms repeatedly has been associated with increased risk with various types of cancers, including colon cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer.'”1

So, if you work nights or just can’t seem to give up using that device in the evening hours, use apps or the settings on your devices to get warmer light. And if at all possible, avoid bright screens two to three hours before bed. But that’s not all. During the day make sure to “expose yourself to lots of bright light during the day, which can improve mood and alertness and also help you get a better night’s sleep.”2
