While I’m not sure I can imagine living in a small van for 5 years, I like the idea of not having to deal with a house. This reno after Hurricane Matthew has been a crazy, nightmare headache (deep breaths). What do you think, could you do it? Read on.

In the spring of 2010, Calum Creasey and Lauren Smith bought a sad looking Volkswagen T4 van and with love, creativity, and a small budget they created their dream home. Lauren and Calum, both from Newport Pagnell (a town in Buckinghamshire, England) have always loved exploring and spending time in the outdoors so this life made sense.

For 5 years they traveled across Europe and covered more than 80,000 miles…but then, their precious home started to show some serious wear and tear. The solution? Write a book and start a Kickstarter campaign to get the word out. When it was fully funded they published their book “The Rolling Home” with proceeds going towards van upkeep.

They have plans to roll along for another 5 years.

But the point of the book wasn’t only to document what they’ve done and where they’ve been but to also show people that living the lifestyle of your choice is both reasonably attainable and a lot of fun.

Now THAT I can get behind. After all, life is an adventure!

From the article:

“The couple says that the hardest thing they run into when it comes to living in a van is when they come across towns that aren’t very “van friendly”. Imagine it is late at night, you are tired and just looking for a place to park in the dark to sleep for the night.

There are times where it isn’t all fun and games, but overall the couple loves their life and wants to continue it many more years.”

The Book

If you are interested in the life they’ve been living, check out their book of adventures and help them keep at it for another 5 years of travel! They hope the book will inspire others to hit the open road and create their own memories by living their life to the fullest.
