If you didn’t hear about the amazing America’s Got Talent moment the other night, you might be living in a cave. Last Tuesday, when Mandy Harvey, who is deaf, got up to sing, she moved each of the judges, everyone in the room, each person watching at home, and maybe even the nation. And, she earned the Golden Buzzer- from Simon Cowell, no less! 1

Mandy is deaf after losing her hearing about 10 years ago due to a connective tissue disorder. After years of not singing, “giving up”, she decided she wanted more for her life. And so, last week she stood on that stage in front of all those people, in stocking feet- so she could feel the beat– and performed an original song she wrote called “Try.” 2
That song, the lyrics, and the attitude behind it are one of the most important traits we can have: persistence/determination.

Well done, Mandy.
Cowell, one of the judges, said, “It was incredible. I’ve done this a long time. That was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen and heard. Honestly, I never think I’m gonna be surprised or amazed by people, and then you turn up. Just the fact that you are you, but it was your voice, your tone, the song was beautiful.” 2
The day after, Cowell went further, tweeting, “If you want to see an inspirational audition, this is it. Congratulations Mandy, very proud of you.” 2
We couldn’t agree more.
I know I usually try to put these heartwarming stories out on Friday or Monday, but I couldn’t resist!
