Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Rebecca Burger, a famous fitness and lifestyle blogger who was killed by an exploding whipped cream dispenser. Her family hopes that by sharing this horrible tragedy, it won’t happen to anyone else. Burger, 33, reportedly suffered cardiac arrest after the gadget exploded and struck her chest.
The cans work by injecting gas into a metal canister to pressurize the contents but there is risk involved (something a French consumer group has warned about for years).
The health and fitness firm Women’s Best, who Ms Burger modeled for, posted a tribute online:
“We are sad to have to announce the loss of this wonderful soul. Our French athlete Rebecca Burger died yesterday.
Rebecca was a great athlete and a kind and generous person with whom to work.
Pray for her to rest in peace and for her family to remain strong. We will always be proud of you Rebecca.” 1
Back in 2013, another victim told RTL radio: “I had six broken ribs, and my sternum was broken. At the hospital, I was told that if the shock and blast had been facing the heart, I would be dead now.” 2
Again, because there are risks involved this may not be the last time someone is hurt. And, although at least one manufacturer issued a product recall last year, there are still potentially thousands of those canisters remaining in people’s homes.
