Prison officials in NYC are thinking twice about how to deal with convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein once he is behind bars. According to multiple reports, their biggest fear is another Jeffrey Epstein-like suicide.
High-ranking officials at NYC’s Department of Corrections indicated there’s anxiety running through the ranks about another “Epstein Incident” and the scrutiny that would follow if that happened while Weinstein is on their watch.
An action plan is in place. For starters, Judge James Burke said he’d ask that Weinstein be placed in the Rikers Island’s North Infirmary Command, where he’d have “something tantamount to protective custody.” This area is for high-profile inmates or inmates with health issues, and Harvey fits both.

Once he’s there and all checked in, Weinstein will most likely get his own cell with round-the-clock surveillance cameras watching him. A jail source told the post:
“Harvey is going to be isolated as much as possible and will always have a detail with him throughout the prison. He’s never going to be like other prisoners, able to walk down the hallway or sit in the canteen alone.”

As we’ve previously reported, Epstein’s death, which is still being investigated, was put under a magnifying glass when he allegedly hanged himself in his cell, while guards were supposed to be checking in on him periodically.
In fact, according to TMZ, officials at NYC’s Department Of Corrections don’t even want Harvey as a prisoner. The view him as a huge risk, and there are talks of trying to house him elsewhere.

In the meantime, though, we’re told Weinstein is milking his stay at the Bellevue Hospital he was taken to this week after complaints of chest pains. According to reports, he has his own room there, and that the conditions are much nicer than what is waiting for him at Rikers. A team of DOC officers has already taken position guarding Weinstein at the hospital.
Weinstein is facing a minimum sentence of at least five years after Monday’s conviction.
