Before his unfortunate death in March, Nipsey Hussle’s influence was felt all across the country.

Now, the LA native is being honored with a tribute in Harlem, New York that will solidify his legacy forever. The village of Harlem officially declared June 1st as “Nipsey Hussle Appreciation Day.” Officials shared the announcement at Ruckers Park, surrounded by community members and fans.

In a post shared on Instagram, Indigo Grant, the self-described artist manager, executive producer, and event organizer, described the day as a huge success. Grant also revealed she was able to get four proclamations and eight citations passed in Hussle’s honor. She wrote:

[I]f nothing else King you have inspired us all to be involved in our communities to show upcoming generations that the streets isn’t the only way and to fix issues locally to inspire others to the same. May Los Angelos know just how much Nip meant to all of us as well.”1

The special honor comes just days after the Crips gang filed for a trademark of Hussle’s slogan, “The Marathon Continues.” The gang plans to use the trademark for a host of services, including “developing educational manuals for others in the field of community organizing, gang prevention, gang intervention.”1

“We’re going to continue to release some product that we’ve created with him,” “We’ve also got some charity activations that we’ll do to support what he was doing in Crenshaw, and trying to continue the work that he was doing through his foundation.”1

The city of Los Angeles paid tribute to Hussle in April with a memorial basketball court at the Crete Academy in Hyde Park. That same month, LA Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson introduced legislation to rename Crenshaw and Slauson after the beloved artist.
