While we are wary of General Mills (because of the food they make and market to say, kids), we are thankful for their new campaign: http://www.cheerios.com/bringbackthebees

The “Bring Back The Bees” campaign was introduced to consumers by debuting Honey Nut Cheerios boxes with a blank space where BuzzBee normally resides. Don’t worry, though, BuzzBee’s break from mascot duties is only temporary.

And it couldn’ come at a better time; our bees are a VITAL aspect of agriculture. In fact, there are some foods that, without bees, would no longer be available to us because bees do 100 percent of the pollination work.

From the article:

“As part of its campaign, General Mills is also asking customers to plant over 100 million wildflowers this year. To do so, the company has set up a website where people can order seeds for free and learn about pollination issues.

The Business Journal reports that a similar effort was launched by General Mills in Canada last year.”

If you’ve spent any time here at HNN then you know we are HUGE bee fans. Let’s hope this campaign and their placement on the endangered species list, helps to bring them back from the brink because their current path is not pretty:
