Horse found ‘shivering uncontrollably’ survives California wildfire by hiding in backyard pool

The fires in California have been devastating to homes, wildlife and pets. The photos and stories are absolutely heartbreaking. But today’s there a little good news…

One horse was able to escape the deadly “Camp Fire” wildfire tearing through Paradise, by hiding out in a backyard pool.

On Sunday while checking on someone’s home, Paradise resident Jeff Hill found the horse in the pool, shivering. She was still there because of the pool cover; something that simultaneously prevented her from drowning but also kept her trapped.

Hill wrote in a Facebook post, “We stumbled upon this girl who had given up and had the look of defeat in her eyes, There’s no telling how long she was there but she was shivering uncontrollably and ultimately lost her fight.” (see below)

Thankfully, Hill and a friend were able to unhook the pool cover, pull the horse into the shallow end, and guide her up the steps and out of the pool.
