Ever since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, analysts have been concerned that terrorists might steal, buy, build, or be given a nuclear weapon; if that were to happen, the “War on Terror” would become a nuclear one. Sadly, many experts believe an act such as this is going to happen- it isn’t a question of if but when.

“Until the recent protracted nuclear crisis with North Korea, relatively less attention has been paid to the increasing possibility of nuclear war between nations. India and Pakistan are widely regarded as the most likely candidates for a nuclear conflict between states.

Although North Korea, Russia, and China have all made nuclear threats against the United States recently, in the case of North Korea and Russia repeatedly, most analysts dismiss these as mere “bluster” and “nuclear saber rattling” not to be taken seriously. One day, perhaps soon, this may well prove to be a fatal mistake for millions.” 1

(Remember, the “strongmen” leaders in Russia, China, and North Korea, love to publically parade their nuclear capabilities, missile launches, and exercises. It’s a question of national pride.)

An electromagnetic pulse (or EMP) attack from Russia would be their version of “shock and awe” to force us into submission (China and North Korea would see this type of attack as acceptable as well). This type of attack “would be the most militarily effective use of one or a few nuclear weapons, while also being the most acceptable nuclear option in world opinion, the option most likely to be construed in the U.S. and internationally as ‘restrained’ and a ‘warning shot.'”1

EMP’s would destroy a city by blacking out the electric grid and thereby destroying communications, transportation, etc. When that type of panic sets in is when people start looting- and unless you are part of the looting, you’ll be without food and water (another good reason to grow your own food). Without power and communications, our nation could quickly fall into chaos and that would be a powerful incentive for us to “cease hostilities” and “avert national extinction.”1 And FYI Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran all regard EMP attacks as part of all-out cyber warfare, not necessarily as nuclear warfare. 1

It’s been reported that the U.S. plans to deploy Patriot missiles to the Baltic states for a NATO exercise in July which happens to coincide with Russia’s annual military exercise ZAPAD-17 (which stands for WEST-17) that normally employs 100,000 troops.2 What do you think an action like that might say to someone like, Vladimir Putin?

It’s possible that we are closer to some type of nuclear war than we want to think about, the world is changing. We may soon find that the old rules of engagement no longer apply. The truth is, the first nation to use nuclear weapons today will immediately become the most feared and most credible nuclear power in the world.

But, here’s the thing: I don’t think we need to live in fear, I think we need to live prepared. I refuse to be afraid of anything. Keep your eyes open. Learn to garden. Stop wasting your time and money on things that don’t matter. Get healthy. Live your life.

XO- Erin
