YouTube personality Emily Hartridge died Friday in a traffic collision, it was announced on her Instagram account. She was only 35.

The London Metropolitan Police reported the collision of a truck and an electric scooter early Friday morning, leaving a woman in her 30s dead at the scene. According to The Guardian, Hartridge was the victim. The Guardian also said the crash was Britain’s first fatal collision involving an electric scooter.

Her sudden death was announced in a post on her Instagram account. The post reads:

“This is a horrible thing to have to say over Instagram but we know many of you were expecting to see Emily today and this is the only way to contact all of you. Emily was involved in an accident yesterday and passed away. We all loved her to bits and she will never be forgotten.”

Hartridge became a media star seven years ago with her witty and humorous “Ten Reasons Why…” videos about everything from love and sex to modern life in general. She often talked about fitness and the strength of being a woman. She shared an intimate relationship with her viewers, posting about her mental health, her personal life, her sexuality and freezing her eggs.

One of her videos dealing with mental health was titled “Medication Sent Me Insane.” She also fronted the 4OD show, “Oh Sh*t I’m 30.” Hartridge’s YouTube page currently has more than 340,000 subscribers and attracts more than 3 million viewers a month. She wrote on the page:

“The main purpose of my channel is to make you laugh and also throw in a bit of honesty because let’s be honest (pun intended), life is JUST too short.”

Her latest video, based on that fact that her boyfriend is eight years her junior, was titled “10 Reasons to Get a Younger Boyfriend.”

Social media reacted with great sadness upon learning of Hartridge’s unexpected passing. Celebrity host Maude Garrett tweeted, “I’m really struggling to comprehend the sudden passing of my friend @emilyhartridge. She was a radiant light who always found a reason to laugh.”

On Friday, in what would be her last Instagram post, Hartridge discussed her reaction to a troll who asked her if she was a man because of her lean-muscular physique. She stated:

“I have never adhered to societal norms and I am certainly not going to start now.”

At least eleven deaths involving electric scooters were recorded between January 2018 and June 2019. in the United States, and in 2018 they were involved in at least 1,545 accidents.
