Elon Musk recently tweeted that Neuralink, his brain-computer chip company, is working on an “awesome” version of the device. The eccentric billionaire thinks his brain interface technology will transform humans into a master super race.

RELATED STORY:

Musk has been developing Neuralink because he thinks humans must become one with machines to survive being displaced by artificial intelligence (AI). His idea to “save the human race”1 includes wiring computer chips into our brains to merge us with AI. Last July, the company unveiled plans to use lasers to fire holes in skulls to feed threads of electrodes into the human brain. According to Neuralink, this will provide the path to connect the human mind to machines.

The firm says its brain chips (pictured) will give people hyper-intelligence. Previously, Musk declared the updated version of Neuralink might be “in a human as soon as this year.”1 A concept design of Musk’s updated vision has not yet been disclosed, and we don’t know if it will even work. Still, Musk is confident and believes the device could also help to “restore brain and motor functions.”1

Neuralink’s website brags that the company is developing “ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers.”1

RELATED STORY:

The technology has more applications than just creating a superhuman cyborg race, though. Musk has said Neuralink will initially focus on medical applications, such as tackling the effects of brain diseases like epilepsy.
After this, the brain chips will be modified to develop a “symbiotic relationship” between AI and humanity. Ultimately, Musk thinks that implanted chips are what will shield humans from becoming an endangered species.
