An Israeli company called Icecure has developed exciting new technology that freezes cancer cells. The treatment requires local anesthesia and takes up to one hour, and for some only ten to fifteen minutes, and many patients are home the same day.
Thousands of women with breast cancer have already been treated in hospitals across the world, including Spain, Japan, Germany and Australia, and a clinical trial is underway in the United States. The treatment leaves only a small scar in the tissue, with no other marks.
RELATED STORY:
Elizabeth Sadka, Vice President of Icecure Medical, describes the treatment:
“…is meant to replace the surgery for a specific population that we can offer to treat in a minimally invasive operation.”
“Thanks for our technology, we can freeze tumors from different types and sizes. The earlier the patient is diagnosed, the smaller the tumor is, the faster and more efficient the treatment will be.”1
The procedure involves injecting a solution that is at a temperature of -274 degrees Fahrenheit into the cancerous tumor. This freezes and kills it, allowing the body to get rid of it naturally within weeks, the same way it does other dead cells.
