It’s now Legal in Florida to break into cars to rescue hot people AND pets!
Editor’s Note: THIS VIDEO WAS MADE BEFORE THIS WAS OFFICIALLY SIGNED INTO LAW
From the State Capital of Florida:
It is now legal for Floridians to break into locked vehicles to rescue pets or vulnerable people who are “in imminent danger of suffering harm,” according to the Miami Herald.
HB 131 was signed into law on Tuesday and is just in time for the upcoming hot Spring and Summer months. The new law hopes to combat the growing number of incidents of deaths among children and pets, from being left in overheated cars.
The Miami Herald reports that according to the new law, you cannot be sued for breaking into a car to rescue a child or animal if:
— first checked the vehicle is locked;
— called 911 or law enforcement before entering the vehicle or immediately after doing so;
— uses no more force than is necessary to break in;
— and remains with the person or animal until first-responders arrive.
We are happy to hear that the bill passed through the Legislature with full support; that’s what we call doing what’s best for your constituents.
