Their recent analysis has found that doctors who receive payments from the medical industry do tend to prescribe drugs differently than their colleagues who don’t receive payments. And the more money they receive (on average) the more brand-name medications they prescribe. For the analysis, ProPublica looked at brand-name prescribing rates for doctors who received no payments, $0.01 to $100, $100 to $500, $500 to $1,000, $1,000 to $5,000 and more than $5000 in payments, from drug or device companies in 2014.
