[…]spread of resistance; it’s fueling it Perhaps because relatively few people are impacted by antibiotic resistance, science hasn’t invested a ton of time trying to find new drugs. That might also be why few people think about a future where “untreatable staph, strep, tuberculosis, leprosy, pneumonia, cholera, diphtheria, scarlet and puerperal fevers, dysentery, typhoid, meningitis, gas gangrene, and gonorrhea”4 are real…out of sight out of mind. But that’s our future if we don’t do something. And maybe even if we do. Which makes Brady’s work all the more important. (The full story from Wired is amazing and can be found here.) […]
[…]2005 linking heart and brain health to both CR and IF diets. Rodents on IF diets had higher resistance to heart and brain damage after heart disease or stroke episode. This is linked to “reduced oxidative damage and increased cellular resistance.” Is Intermittent Fasting Worth Trying? Preliminary studies (as well as a text more than a century old) point to the following resulting from IF: • Increased cognitive function • Weight loss/maintenance • Diabetes prevention • Cardiovascular strength Giving our bodies a chance to digest, heal, and function optimally is the goal. With proper planning, the intermittent fasting benefits could be fantastic. RELATED STORY: One of the worst intermittent fasting mistakes *Article originally appeared at The […]
[…]killer, which replaces earlier products that contained only glyphosate. Some weeds have developed resistance to glyphosate, which Monsanto introduced in the 1970s. Crop seeds such as corn, soybeans and cotton are genetically modified to survive the pesticide while yield-sapping weeds die. Dicamba has long been used to kill weeds before crops are planted, but its use has spiked this season across the United States after regulators last year approved it for crops that are already growing.”3 Monsanto has been selling a new dicamba formulation, Xtendimax, which is supposed to drift less- but it might just be too late. At least, […]
The CDC has reported that at least 92 people in 29 states have been infected with an antibiotic-resistant strain of salmonella. At this time, twenty-one people have been hospitalized but no deaths have been reported. “The victims contracted salmonella after coming into contact with raw chicken products. The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is attempting to identify the source or supplier of the chicken containing salmonella. So far, this drug-resistant strain has been found in whole chickens, chicken parts, ground chicken and in pet food purchased at grocery stores. The bacteria has also been found in […]
[…]the feedback loop between the brain and the adrenals is fried, so there is miscommunication and resistance about when and how to release stress hormones. (read more about the HPA axis here). Adrenal fatigue starts isn’t the fault of the adrenals per se; it’s a dysfunction between the brain and adrenal glands. Your adrenals are 2 small glands that sit atop your kidneys and produce cortisol and sex hormones. In many ways the HPA axis and the adrenals are the command and control center for your body, and they help you manage your stress levels, hormone levels, thyroid function, sleep, […]

RELATED STORY: Researchers discover how antibiotic power of garlic fights chronic infections Although health claims about garlic were largely anecdotal in earlier years, scientists have conducted numerous in vivo (i.e., human) studies that prove many of those benefits! What Are the Health Benefits of Garlic? At an average of 10-20 cloves per garlic bulb, this plant can go a long way to improve your health and wellbeing. Below, you’ll find 6 powerful ways how. 1) Garlic Can Combat Sickness A 12-week study published in Advances in Therapy found that, in comparison to placebo, daily consumption of a garlic supplement reduced […]

A study in diabetic rats found that kombucha slowed down the digestion of carbs, which reduced blood sugar levels. It also improved liver and kidney function. RELATED STORY: How probiotics and fiber helps combat malnutrition Kombucha made from green tea is likely to be even more beneficial, as green tea itself has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels. In fact, a review study of almost 300,000 individuals found that green tea drinkers had an 18% lower risk of becoming diabetic. Further human studies are […]

[…]make sure you save the tick so that it can be tested for presence of pathogenic organisms. Antibiotics Are NOT the Best Treatment Option While early treatment is critical to prevent complications, traditional treatment involving a course of antibiotics is often unsuccessful in preventing complications, including arthritis, cognitive deficits, heart rhythm irregularities or neurological symptoms. Antibiotics damage your gut microbiome and increase your risk of yeast and fungal infections. For these reasons, it is advisable to exhaust natural strategies to help your body fight Lyme disease. One example is the Nutramedix line of herbal antimicrobials, recommended by one of the most […]
[…]agree that adrenal fatigue symptoms include extreme fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, insulin resistance and others. Some people at high risk for the symptoms of adrenal fatigue include busy new parents, students in college or post-graduate studies and caregivers, such as nurses or family members caring for invalid relatives. If you have adrenal fatigue, it can also be a major cause of excess fat storage and low energy levels. Luckily, you can heal adrenal fatigue with three simple steps: start an adrenal fatigue diet, take supplements and reduce stress.” What are the Adrenal Glands? […]coming under scrutiny for addressing only surface aspects of the infection, often leaving antibiotic-resistance Lyme disease deep within the system to continue to cause harm. burgdorferi has a complex life cycle, and can exist in radically different forms: spirochetes, spheroplast (or L-form which lacks a cell wall), round bodies or cyst form (which allows for dormancy and escaping PCR detection), and highly antibiotic-resistant biofilms. This pleomorphic property makes conventional treatment exceptionally difficult because while some conventional antibiotics are effective against forms with a cell wall such as spirochetes, they are ineffective against those without a cell wall. This enables B. […]

[…]can do it We’ve known for a long time that prolonged heavy exercise, though, may reduce resistance to infectious disease, manifested by an apparent two- to six-fold increase in upper respiratory tract infection symptoms for several weeks following marathon running. RELATED STORY: What Are the Benefits of High Intensity Weight Training? Sports coaches are advised to monitor immune function since illness could ultimately lead to a decrease in performance. Therefore, it may be necessary to take protective actions to minimize contact with cold viruses, for example. Athletes can’t get away with just washing their hands and wearing a mask, though, because upper respiratory tract infections are […]

In fact, Triphala was used in the study because of Dr Westfall’s interest in traditional Indian medicine and how it might impact neurodegenerative diseases. The results were so amazing that researchers now believe the study will impact future research and treatment in diabetes, obesity, neurodegeneration, depression and even cancer. “Studies have shown the axis to play a role in a range of conditions, from irritable bowel syndrome to depression. This axis is the name for the communication system between […]
