Grounding: The missing element to healing autoimmunity?

[…]diabetes due to common mechanistic pathways (15). Blood sugar dysregulation, as well as insulin resistance, are also common antecedents or predisposing factors in the onset of autoimmune disease. Thus, it is promising that earthing has been shown to decrease fasting glucose among diabetics with poor glycemic control when implemented over a three-day period (8). Decreased Immune Reactivity Grounding has been proven to produce measurable changes in immune hyper-responsiveness, including changes in white blood cell counts, concentrations of inflammation-mediating cytokines, and other molecules that are involved in mounting inflammatory responses (9). Not only does grounding mitigate the cardinal signs of inflammation, including dolor (pain), calor(heat), tumor (swelling), rubor (redness), […]

Seven fabulous foods to boost brain function and prevent memory loss

[…]you, as all of these have a high glycemic load and they increase blood sugar levels, and insulin resistance: ·         Gluten-rich foods such as whole wheat bread or a bagel, ·         White rice ·         Granola (sugar coated grains) ·         Instant oatmeal ·         Mashed or baked potato ·         Any whole grain that has been processed into flour. The bottom line is that you can improve your brain function starting right now (and prevent or delay future memory loss) by adding foods that boost brain function, and by avoiding foods that cause your blood sugar levels to surge. My published studies show […]

How pomegranate puts chemo & radiation to shame

[…]Stem Cell database. Given that the cancer stem cell populations are the primary cause of treatment resistance and malignancy, any new research that sheds light on this topic has powerful implications for those who wish to use their food as medicine. Pomegranate Confirmed To Be A Cancer Stem Cell Killer Two recent studies have looked at the effects of a pomegranate extract on cancer stem cells. The first, titled, “In vivo relevant mixed urolithins and ellagic acid inhibit phenotypic and molecular colon cancer stem cell features: A new potentiality for ellagitannin metabolites against cancer,” and published in the journal Food and Chemical […]

Researchers discover how antibiotic power of garlic fights chronic infections

[…]is able to fight both at once and therefore may prove an effective drug when used together with antibiotics’, says Tim Holm Jakobsen. Previous studies have shown that garlic appears to offer the most powerful, naturally occurring resistance to bacteria. In addition to inhibiting the bacteria’s RNA molecules, the active garlic compound also damages the protective slimy matrix surrounding the bacteria, the so-called biofilm. When the biofilm is destroyed or weakened, both antibiotics and the body’s own immune system are able to attack the bacteria more directly and thus remove the infection. In 2012 the researchers took out a patent […]

Yerba Mate enhances cellular energy and metabolism

[…]lipid levels in the blood, liver, and feces, and blood insulin levels as an indication of insulin resistance in animals with diet-induced obesity who did or did not receive supplementation with dietary yerba mate. “Obesity and diabetes have become problems that can’t be managed by pharmaceuticals alone. This study suggests a safe alternative to managing weight and reducing blood lipids and glucose,” says Journal of Medicinal Food Editor-in-Chief Sampath Parthasarathy, MBA, PhD, Florida Hospital Chair in Cardiovascular Sciences and Interim Associate Dean, College of Medicine, University of Central Florida. *Article originally appeared at Prevent […]

Study: The world has made more than 9 billion tons of plastic

[…]that has brought its benefits, such as lower-cost materials or capabilities like water resistance, our love of plastic has also produced a lot of trash. About 7 billion tons of it, by their estimate. And as of 2015, only 9 percent of the plastic waste produced ended up recycled, and another 12 percent was incinerated, the researchers found in their report. The remaining 79 percent has built up in landfills or ended up elsewhere in the environment.” RELATED STORY: Coca-Cola produced 1 billion more plastic bottles last year, says Greenpeace In order to make their estimates, the team put datasets on […]

CBS: Keystone pipeline leaks hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil in S Dakota

On Thursday, TransCanada Corp and state regulators announced that the Keystone pipeline had leaked an estimated 210,000 gallons of oil in northeastern South Dakota (remember the numerous times we’ve been told they don’t leak?). Crews immediately shut the pipeline down on Thursday morning and activated emergency response procedures. The cause of the leak is still being investigated. The company announced that the pipeline would remain shut down as they dealt with the leak but did not offer an estimate on when it would be back online. The FDA’s crackdown on raw milk

[…]the books all along… The co-ops’ fear is not that the raw milk farmers would fail the antibiotic test… Most of us are organic and do not even use antibiotics period. Rather, the co-ops are afraid that if a raw milk farmer would not fill out the complex FDA required paperwork correctly when he makes a batch of raw cheese or bottles a few jugs of raw milk that his mistake would jeopardize all the rest of the farmers who make up the BTU (Bulk Tank Unit) of the milk co-op. And the Fear is Well Grounded The FDA has […]

There’s a new type of diabetes and It’s being misdiagnosed as Type 2

[…]body’s cells don’t react to insulin as much as they should do – something known as insulin resistance. Again, blood sugar levels cannot be controlled. Unlike Type 1, however, this variety is influenced by your weight, your age, and your genetic makeup. Gestational diabetes, which occurs as a result of pregnancy, is temporary and is linked to insulin resistance; as such, it’s rarely mentioned as being a separate version of the condition. RELATED STORY: Foods to avoid to help prevent diabetes Type 3c, by contrast, is mostly caused by damage to the pancreas, usually via chronic inflammation, cancerous growths, or […]

LA TIMES: It’s getting clearer — the diet-cancer connection points to sugar and carbs

[…](we need insulin to live). Rather, it’s the insulin that remains at elevated (insulin resistance) levels which can promote the growth of tumors directly and indirectly. (And because elevated insulin directs our bodies to store fat, it can also be linked to the various ways the fat tissue itself is thought to contribute to cancer.) So, it seems the problem isn’t just eating too much but WHAT we are eating. Easily digestible carbohydrates in general, and sugar, in particular, can cause insulin levels to rise to abnormally high levels and remain elevated and THAT can promote the growth of tumors directly and indirectly. […]

Foods to eat to help prevent diabetes

[…]Fat in the bloodstream—from the fat on our bodies or the fat we eat—not only causes insulin resistance, but also produces a low-grade inflammation that can contribute to heart disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Fiber may also decrease insulin resistance. One of the ways it may do so is by helping to rid the body of excess estrogen. There is strong evidence for a direct role of estrogens in the cause of diabetes, and it’s been demonstrated that certain gut bacteria can produce estrogens in our colon. High-fat, low-fiber diets appear to stimulate the metabolic activity of these estrogen-producing intestinal bacteria. This is a problem […]

[…]evidence that exposure to industrial toxins alone induces weight gain and insulin resistance, and, therefore, may be an underappreciated cause of obesity and diabetes. Consider what’s happening to our infants: Obesity in a six-month-old is obviously not related to diet or lack of exercise. They’re now exposed to hundreds of chemicals from their moms, straight through the umbilical cord, some of which may be obesogenic (that is, obesity-generating). For metastatic melanoma, the five-year survival rate is dismal at less than 25% (6). However, there are evidence-based natural substances supported by the scientific literature for their anti-melanoma effects, which may be used as an adjunctive approached alongside other multi-pronged strategies. What you should eat during and after antibiotics

[…]increase the risk of weight gain and obesity. Furthermore, the overuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, making them ineffective at killing disease-causing bacteria. Finally, by changing the types of bacteria living in the intestines, antibiotics can cause intestinal side effects, including diarrhea. SUMMARY:Antibiotics are important for treating infections. However, if overused, they can cause long-term changes to healthy gut bacteria and contribute to liver damage. Take Probiotics During and After Treatment Taking antibiotics can alter the gut microbiota, which can lead to antibiotic-associated diarrhea, especially in children. Fortunately, a number of studies have shown that taking probiotics, or live […]

The alternative treatment anyone with diabetes should consider doing

[…]articles from 2008 to 2015 to determine whether acupuncture was a valid treatment for insulin resistance and to assess the possibility of acupuncture as a future treatment for insulin sensitivity. The results of the literature review suggested low intensity and low-frequency electroacupuncture could help in reducing insulin resistance and increasing insulin sensitivity. Electroacupuncture could be used alone or in combination with other treatments, including alternative therapies, such as diet and Chinese herbs. In 2015, Acupuncture in Medicine reviewed a group of studies where electroacupuncture was combined with an anti-diabetic medication, called metformin, to look for better glucose lowering responses and greater insulin sensitivity. France to ban glyphosate weedkiller by 2022

[…]effects. Against glyphosate and its role as an endocrine disruptor, and possibly a powerful antibiotic, there is a bundle of presumptions that justify applying the precautionary principle. But a brutal ban would pose an unsolvable problem for many farmers… I understand that perfectly. And I am on their side, including regarding their health. But on the pretext that it is complicated, should we continue to push the topic under the table? Will France therefore oppose renewal at European level? The answer is yes, because we have to make the fastest possible exit out of the most dangerous products. Without constraint, […]
