(Editor’s Note: Did you guys see this story? It made me so happy. Good for her. We need more people like Officer Ayala in the world!)
Last week, while working her shift at Sor Maria Ludovica Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentine police officer Celeste Jaqueline Ayala heard a baby crying uncontrollably. The baby, who was malnourished, needed food and love. So, Ayala, who is the mother of a newborn, asked hospital staff if she could hold and comfort the crying baby. 1
Although the hospital staff had dismissed the baby as “dirty” they let her comfort and nurse the baby until he stopped crying.
Her friend, overcome with pride in his friend’s actions, posted the now viral image on Facebook. You can see the post, which has received thousands of “likes” and “shares,” above.
And then, days after that photo went viral, the Vice President of the legislature in Buenos Aires, Cristian Ritondo, met with Ayala and promoted her from officer to sergeant.
Check out his tweet about Ayala below:
Hoy recibimos a Celeste, la oficial que amamantó a un bebé en el Hospital de Niños de #LaPlata para notificarle su ascenso. Queríamos agradecerle en persona ese gesto de amor espontáneo que logró calmar el llanto del bebé. La policía que nos enorgullece, la policía que queremos. pic.twitter.com/8aBp0Xj4Zj
