The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Thomas Frieden, plans to submit his resignation on January 20th, the day of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
It will go down in history that he was running the CDC during the explosive #CDCWhistleblower scandal where a senior scientist blew the whistle on the agency for fraud, corruption, and blatant lies on the 2004 MMR Autism study (and probably many more- we are sure that’s just the tip of the iceberg).
Frieden disclosed his plans to resign in a year-end interview with Reuters. His future plans are not currently known.
Frieden’s resignation is not a total surprise because most incoming administrations don’t usually retain the heads of federal agencies. President-elect Trump has yet to announce who he will appoint to replace Frieden.
From the article:
“Frieden has an extensive background in epidemiology and infectious diseases, and his tenure at the CDC was marked by major efforts to combat outbreaks of the Ebola virus (which never was a big threat and another scare tactic) fungal meningitis, influenza and the Zika virus (DITTO), which scientists say did NOT cause the birth defects or microcephaly in babies.
Frieden may have had good intentions during his tenure but it seems he was incapable of doing his job, perhaps because he was out of his depth. The agency, under his direction, repeatedly showed a penchant for arrogance and contempt for the public while drafting the guidelines.
We aren’t sad to see him go.
