We realize suicide is a real epidemic in this country. While several family members question the deaths in the holistic doctor series who died of alleged suicide, we are not stating that is the case here at all. It does appear to have been a suicide. But we must ask what is causing this epidemic? I know some have questioned why an anesthesiologist would take such a violent route to end their life, but depression and suicidal thoughts can affect people differently.

Others asked if this was a copy of Dr. Glenn Scarpelli and his wife who jumped to their deaths last week, also in New York City (in the heart of Manhattan). In their case, the 2 were found with typed suicide notes in their pockets, sealed in plastic bags.

If you or anyone you know is suicidal, please the call the National Suicide Hotline Prevention Center hotline 24/7, 7 days a week: 1-800-273-8255.

Anesthesiologist Gabriel Goodwin, 35, a Bronx doctor with a history of mental-health problems, bought a shotgun on Friday then went up to the roof of Montefiore Medical Center and jumped to his death. 1

Goodwin leaped to his death just after 7 p.m., and was pronounced dead there minutes later.

Police sources report that investigators found a large hunting knife and a receipt for a shotgun and buckshot in his car, which was purchased around 3 p.m., hours before he killed himself. Authorities still aren’t sure where he got the gun or where it is.1

Goodwin reportedly suffered from depression, and even allegedly underwent electroshock therapy in an attempt to treat it.

Our heart goes out to his family and friends.
