Solar Powered Buildings Produce 5 Times The Energy They Use
There are plenty of solar panels out there that move and rotate to follow the sun. Portuguese company, Casas em Movimento has taken this a step and a leap further and designed rotating solar powered homes. These homes are so efficient they can produce 5 times as much energy as is required to power their rotation.
Inhabitat says, “both the photovoltaic array and the home are capable of moving in pursuit of the sun. Guilherme Silva, who has been working on this project since it was first introduced at the Solar Decathlon in Madrid, told Inhabitat the idea was to bring to life the buildings in which we live, work and spend most of our time – in a sustainable way. He said the design was inspired by sunflowers.”
The homes use equal to roughly six 60 watt light bulbs running for one hour each day to rotate. The rotation also modifies the home’s layout as well, as Silva states, “in the morning the kitchen can be smaller, as 21st century families’ daily routine seldom allows everyone to have breakfast together; by night, it can fuse with the living room, allowing the family to spend time together at the end of the day while cooking/eating dinner.”
Casa em Movimento has released a video delving into the tech:
