A piece of freeway in Missouri is being set up with solar panels as roads. The initial stretch will be enough to power a rest stop.
“You can get your kicks on Route 66. But soon, you might get your energy there too. Missouri is rolling out a set of energy-generating photovoltaic pavers along a section of the famous highway—the first such panels on a public right of way in the U.S.”, reports Curbed.
“We manufacture solar panels that you can drive on or park on,” says solar roadway creator Scott Brusaw. “You can build parking lots and sidewalks, roadways and bike paths.”
The tempered glass is bullet proof and bomb proof by using layers. The electronics are laminated between the layers to keep them safe.
The potential of turning asphalt into viable energy producers (even if the produce small amounts at first) is immense. Not only does it get us away from tar, but we will have limitless supplies of energy.
You can also say goodbye to potholes (Editors Note: I bet my friends in Chicago would LOVE this!).
