(Editor’s Note: Let’s not forget Stonyfield Farm’s Hirshberg TEAMED UP WITH MONSANTO. And now this.)

Former CEO and current chairman of Stonyfield Farm, Gary Hirshberg, mentioned in an email to Hillary Clinton that he had helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for her. Nearly $400,000- to be more precise.

And perhaps because of that, he felt comfortable pushing Hillary Clinton’s campaign to take a stronger stance on labeling food that contains genetically modified organisms (we do like the labeling part), in numerous emails sent to them.

Hillary Clinton and GMO Labeling

The emails were sent before Clinton won the Democratic presidential nomination and before President Barack Obama signed a bill into law requiring manufacturers to label foods that had been genetically modified. His email contained references to how a stronger stance on GMO labeling could help her in the primary election against Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who is a strong advocate of GMO labeling.

From the article:

“He wrote that Clinton was asked about her stance on GMOs while campaigning and had responded that GMOs needed more independent testing.

Instead, he recommended an alternative response for Clinton: “With regard to GMOs, I do feel that more independently funded long-term research is needed, but one thing I absolutely believe is that, regardless of your views on GMO safety, everyone has the right to know whether they are in your foods and so I do support mandatory GMO labeling and transparency.”

(Proof that your particular agenda can buy a politician!)

 But he didn’t stop there.

  • In June 2015, Hirshberg sent an email to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta explaining the problems with the use of GMO’s.
  • In October 2015, Hirshberg sent an email titled: “Heads up about a big missed opportunity for HRC in NH that you all really want to fix for the next time.”
  • In a December email chain, he raised concerns about comments Clinton reportedly made in Denver, “It is clear that she does not have a consistent message so I hope you can get through to her on this with my suggestions from earlier today.”
  • On March 13, Hirshberg wrote AGAIN, concerned about a Senate bill that might block a GMO labeling law in Vermont, from taking effect: “I can promise you that if President Obama signs this terrible legislation that blatantly validates Bernie’s entire campaign message about Wall Street running our government, this will give Bernie a huge boost … [citizens] will be marching on the Mall with Bernie as their keynote speaker.”
At this time, Clinton’s campaign staff has not confirmed the authenticity of the leaked emails, but they have blamed it on a Russian hack.
