The Heartbreaking Reason This Mom Climbed Into Her Baby’s Crib..
It’s both a strange picture and one of the most loving and comforting, too. Matt and Dayna are the proud parents of Luella. One of the first times they ever left her was to attend a worship concert and at that concert, a missionary shared his story about an orphanage in Uganda. That day, Dayna’s life was radically changed, as was her vision of her child.
In her own words, from her Facebook page:
“That missionary was in an orphanage in Uganda, and he has been in many before, but this one was different. He walked into a nursery with over 100 filled cribs with babes. He listened in amazement and wonder as the only sound he could hear was silence. A sound that is beyond rare in ANY nursery, let alone a nursery where over 100 new babes laid. He turned to his host and asked her why the nursery was silent. Then , her response to him is something I will never, ever forget. EVER. This was my “why” moment.
She looked at him and said, “After about a week of them being here, and crying out for countless hours, they eventually stop when they realize no one is coming for them…”
At that moment she remembers feeling broken. Can you imagine the saddness, standing in a room full of infants who, at their incredibly young ages, already know they are utterly alone. No one is coming. So, with that understanding, her mother’s heart cried out and once home- cradling her sweet girl in her arms- she made her a promise that no matter what, she would always come for her; whether that be 2:00 am, her first hurt, or after her first heartbreak- they will be there.
There is nothing better than love. Nothing in the world.
XO- Erin
