“Recent animal studies have shown that marijuana can kill certain types of cancer cells and shrink others. Evidence from one animal study suggests that extracts from whole-plant marijuana can shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumors” and that “these extracts, when used with radiation, increased cancer killing effects of the radiation.”
This extremely bold admission from a federal agency, that marijuana had strong healing value and that it doesn’t belong on the banned, Schedule 1 narcotic list, has coincided with a bill that was introduced by Senator Cory Booker. Called, the “Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States Act of 2015”, it would move marijuana from the Schedule 1 list to the Schedule 2, allowing states to decide whether to legalize marijuana or not.
“When even NIDA and the surgeon general are acknowledging that marijuana can help people who are suffering, it is time for the Obama administration to reschedule the drug. The attorney general can initiate that process today.”
The one thing that would help to increase the speed of the process would be for the FDA to fully approve marijuana for use as medicine. The NIDA’s document goes on to say that the reasons that the FDA has been slow to approve marijuana is because,
“researchers have not conducted enough large-scale clinical trials that show that the benefits of the marijuana plant outweigh its risks.”
It seems that the FDA is either antiquated or is purposefully ignoring the massive amounts of evidence that could literally change the world through industry and health. The United States could potentially lead the world with hemp exports and processing new medicines, clothing, oil, and food. All they would have to do is take the time to see the mounting benefits for not only the people of their country, but for the benefit of the entire world.
