On Sunday, the Volusia County animal shelter (which I absolutely adore and have volunteered at) took in 35 dogs, some of which had escaped Hurricane Harvey. The majority of the dogs are from Louisiana but some are from Texas. In fact, one of the dogs from Texas was found living outside on a heavy chain. We are so glad they got to her before she drowned.

Once at the shelter, the dogs will be given veterinary attention, bedding, food, and water.

Due to the influx of dogs, “the shelter is also receiving help from two other Volusia rescues — Pawsibilities Rescue Group in Port Orange and Sophie’s Circle Dog Rescue in New Smyrna Beach.” 1 Morgan said the groups have received several contributions of bedding and food Sunday, and at least 15 people have volunteered to foster the dogs.

People have already begun to send in bedding and food contributions as well and at least 15 people have signed up as foster care givers. If you are able to help in any way, with this charity or one of the many other verified charities, please do.
