Apparently, there are rumors online suggesting that Kelloggs Corn Flakes were invented as an aid against masturbation.
Several memes have appeared recently asking people “Google” why the cereal was invented. Search results claim that the bland breakfast concoction was created intentionally to ward off sexual urges. That theory, however, appears to be false (but check out the video below).
RELATED STORY:
Corn Flakes were developed by J.H. Kellogg, the cereal manufacturer. He created Corn Flakes to offer nourishment to patients at the Kellogg sanitarium in Michigan.
Kellogg was a devoted Seventh Day Adventist, and believed in stringent abstention from almost all forms of sexual activity or contact, and this even applied to married, heterosexual couples. In a 1997 book, he said masturbation was self-polluting and called it “the most dangerous of all sexual abuses.”1 He referenced several culprits as the causes of masturbation, one of them being the consumption of “exciting and irritating food.”1

The doctor-entrepreneur promoted “the most simple, pure and unstimulating diet” as a method to prevent oneself from masturbating.
However, despite J.H. Kellogg’s radical religious beliefs, there is no evidence to support reports that Corn Flakes were explicitly created as an anti-masturbatory tool. The cereal most likely produced as a healthy breakfast dish and nothing more.
RELATED STORY:
Advertisements from the 1900s promote the cereal as “nutritious and healthful” while informing consumers of its advantages to the digestive system.
So there you have it – according to i News, the inventor didn’t initially created Corn Flakes to serve as a “healthy, ready-to-eat anti-masturbatory morning meal.”1
