On Friday in Oregon, a 67-year-old man lost his life when a large tree came down onto a home in his neighborhood. Ronald Edward Kibert, a chiropractor, worked at All Family Chiropractor in the Portland-Beaverton area. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported that Kibert was found unconscious in a greenspace behind a home around 8:15 a.m. A neighborhood resident called 911 and performed CPR until responders arrived. He was taken to OHSU but died from his injuries.

His death is being attributed to the unusually strong windstorm that swept through the region on Friday. It knocked out trees, snagged power lines, and may have loosened the earth below the large tree.

We sometimes forget just how strong trees can be. However, if you are in the middle of a storm and your house is surrounded by them, you tend to quickly remember. I’ve had many trees go down during storms in Florida but thank goodness we’ve never lost anyone.

Again, our hearts go out to his family.
