A study conducted by researchers in the US and published in the journal Science Translational Medicine has suggested that chemotherapy might be shrinking tumors initially only to see the cancer later spread and cause more aggressive tumors to emerge.

“The researchers studied how the drugs were affecting patients who had breast cancer, and claimed that they found that the medication was increasing the chance of cancer cells moving to other parts of the body.

According to reports, this could occur by the medication triggering a repair mechanism which causes the body to grow the tumour back in a stronger form, as well as increasing the paths of blood vessels which allow the cancer to spread.” 1

Lead researcher, Dr George Karagiannis, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York and his team found that “…in addition to killing tumor cells, chemotherapy treatment can also increase intravasation (the invasion of cancer cells through the basal membrane into a blood or lymphatic vessel).” 2

Karagiannis claims that the groups of cells collectively known as “tumor microenvironment of metastasis,” or TMEM, can serve as gateways- or open doors- for tumor cells entering the vasculature. The team discovered that several types of chemotherapy actually increase the “amounts of TMEM complexes and circulating tumor cells in the bloodstream.”2 The team found the same conclusion in their mice who were receiving chemo for breast cancer- the number of cancer cells circulating the body increased.

More study is needed but it makes sense that if you poison the body, nearly to death, that there are going to be serious consequences.
