Since last Saturday, a chemical fire has been burning at a plastics warehouse just outside of Parkersburg, West Virginia. What is still unknown is which materials caught fire, when the fire will be totally extinguished, or what the potential health effects will be on residents of the town. In the meantime, West Virginia Republican Gov. Jim Justice has declared a state of emergency and requested federal aid for firefighting and environmental tests. 1

Nearly a decade ago, two volunteer firefighters warned that the warehouse was at risk of a major fire.
