No, I’m not making this up. Yes, a British supermarket chain thought avocados were too dangerous for people so they created a seedless one. No, you can’t make this stuff up.
You see, when you slice open an avocado, there’s a chance the knife could slip when you hit the pit and then ricochet toward your thumb and fingers. So clearly, there’s a serious need (I hope you can feel the sarcasm).
“Earlier this year, the UK medical community began referring to the laceration of one’s hand while enthusiastically cutting the fruit as “avocado hand.” Tendons and nerves were being severed with such frequency, the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons warned people about the safety risk, and one doctor even suggested avocados carry safety labels.” 1
The new “cocktail avocado” has no pit and tender skin- that you can also eat. However, if eating avocado skin doesn’t sound great, you can always open one end of the avocado and squeeze out the pulpy flesh like toothpaste from the bottom of the tube. Instant guacamole! Or you can cut it. The world is your oyster!
