British mom Samantha Sharpe is speaking out about the dangers of energy drinks after she developed an addiction she called  “worse than heroin.” On the verge of diabetes, Sharpe was forced to get a pacemaker because of her addiction to the drink. And she’s only 32.

She said,

“The drinks made my heart beat faster, which would cause palpitations, then after I would crash when I needed another one. It would give me headaches, I’d be grumpy, and I’d need another one to keep me good.”1

But it wasn’t the kidney stones or the warning that she was headed towards Type 2 diabetes. No, it was the blackouts that made her decide it was time to stop, “I went to the doctor over a year ago because I kept blacking out at home. I had a first-degree heart blockage and it then extended to second degree.”1

RELATED STORY:

Thankfully, Sharpe is now off the garbage drinks and wants to make sure no one else goes through what she did. She said, “The effects of energy drinks need to be advertised more. I think everyone knows they aren’t good for you — but no one has ever said why they aren’t.”1
