For the last four years, Bonnie Kimball has been a lunch room attendant at a New Hampshire high school. But no more. She was recently let go for letting a student take food without paying. That’s correct, she was fired by the district manager of Café Services for “theft.” FYI: the student she helped out paid his $8 lunch tab the next morning.
Also, it was $8 and a student didn’t go hungry.
Although school officials and the food service company offered to rehire her, Kimball refused to go back saying, “they’re not doing it for me, they are doing it to save face.”1(We would agree.)
When world-famous Spanish chef, José Andrés, “who has helped provide millions of free meals to furloughed federal workers and natural disaster survivors”1 in Puerto Rico found out about Kimball’s actions, he called her a hero. But he didn’t stop there. He said on Twitter:
“If she needs a job we have openings at @thinkfoodgroup. If you know her, let her know.”
