Skin age reversed 13 years in just 9 months by doing this

One simple lifestyle modification — the cessation of smoking — has been found to dramatically reverse biological skin age in a study of Italian women. RELATED STORY: Obesity poised to overtake smoking as leading preventable cause of cancer Dramatic reversal of skin aging has been seen in smokers who stopped for at least nine months. This does not mean, however, non-smokers will not also experience similar improvements by eliminating avoidable chemical exposures, detoxifying, as well as changing their diet to include longevity-promoting nutrients and phytocompounds, such as blueberry, zinc, and chocolate. In fact, a wide range of natural substances...

CBS: Unhealthy diets now kill more people than tobacco and high blood pressure, study finds

Did you know that according to many doctors and scientists, 80% of our diet should consist of fruits and vegetables? And yet, a large study has shown that a poor diet is associated with 1 in 5 deaths worldwide or about 11 million deaths a year. And that makes unhealthy eating habits responsible for more deaths than tobacco and high blood pressure. The study was published in the journal The Lancet. RELATED STORY: One of the best exercises for high blood pressure Study author Dr. Ashkan Afshin, an assistant professor of Health Metrics Sciences at the University of Washington, said, “Poor dietary...

Denver first in U.S. to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms

Denver is set to become the first city in the nation to (basically) decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms. (It basically directs the police to “look the other way” on adult psilocybin use.) After voting this week, it’s looks as though Initiative 301 will pass- albeit narrowly– with just 50.6 percent of the vote: 89,320 votes in favor and 87,341 against. That’s a very small margin. Results will be certified May 16. “Psychedelic mushrooms still would remain illegal to buy, sell or possess, with the latter crime a felony that carries a potential punishment of up to a year in prison and a fine....

CNN: FDA allows sale of breast implant linked to cancer, strengthens warnings

(Note from Erin: I had my implants removed years ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you still have implants or are thinking about getting them, I would strongly encourage you to read this article and each of the links provided within. You are more important than the risk and your body is beautiful without them. I promise.) We’ve been talking to you for the last year about breast implants and cancer. However, at the beginning of the month, “despite an outcry from women”1 to ban the textured breast implants associated with anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (cancer of the cells of the immune system) the FDA announced those implants will still be allowed for sale in the United States although they will come with a strongly worded warning. RELATED STORY: CBS: FDA weighs possible cancer risks of textured breast implants (The FDA decided to move forward even after a two-day public advisory meeting in late March where a number of women spoke out about their health problems after receiving the implants.) “BIA-ALCL is predominantly associated with a textured type of implant, rather than the smooth version. The illness is slow-growing and treatable when it’s detected early. At least 457 women in the United States have been diagnosed with the cancer, according to the FDA, and nine have died as...

CNN: A hiker did not survive his last climb. His loyal dog barked by his side until rescuers found him

According to Washington state deputies in the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, a missing hiker may never have been found if it weren’t for his dog, Daisy. The 64-year-old man was reported missing by his wife a day after he had left to for a hike. RELATED STORY: Man visits shelters to ask for dogs that no one wants, ends up adopting 10 senior canines “‘The missing man reportedly often went hiking with his dog, but did not leave a note where he was going and had failed to return home after dark,’ the sheriff’s department said. ‘The man’s wife...
