Our newly elected governor here in Florida, Ron DeSantis, has wasted no time in office. And his most recent move was an executive order to eliminate Common Core standards in Florida schools. Although the state originally adopted the Common Core standards, they were later altered and renamed and DeSantis wants a more permanent solution. Holistic doctor and boyfriend found shot dead in alleged murder suicide

University of Utah first-year medical resident Dr. Sarah Hawley, beloved by all who knew her, was killed on January 27th. The 27-year old’s death appears to be a domestic related murder-suicide. According to Sgt. Brandon Shear, a Salt Lake Police Department spokesman, “the incident occurred in a home on Ramona Ave. near 1800 East. CBS: Florida’s Brevard Zoo let’s toddler “pet and brush” giant rhinos for 10 mins, child falls in suffering lung and liver injuries

At the end of January, a toddler that had been petting and brushing two rhinos at Florida’s Brevard Zoo fell into the exhibit and was hit with their horns. According to wildlife officials, the girl suffered a lacerated liver and bruised lung. “The 21-month-old also suffered contusions to her chest, back, abdomen and head during the New Year’s Day incident, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission report said. CBS: Doctors euthanize 38-year-old woman dealing with depression instead of treating her

Super-easy homemade almond milk; no straining required

If you’ve ever looked at the ingredient list on some of the nut milks your local grocery store carries, you’ve likely wondered, “Should I just make my own?” Especially if you are looking for protein because “there are only four almonds in one cup of commercial almond milk.”1That works out to be about “thirty cents for four almonds, some water, a little thickener, a little emulsifier, and some supplemental vitamins.”1 RELATED STORY: Fox: Almond milk found containing real milk recalled in 28 states Surely, we can do better. Thanks so much to Delishably for posting the following recipe from Stacy Becker that uses slivered almonds and therefore, needs to straining!1 Prep time: 4 min Ready in: 4 min Yields: 1 quart (8 cups) Ingredients: 7 1/2 cups water, separated 1 cup slivered almonds, Additions (optional): Sweetener of choice (1-3 Tablespoons) Vanilla (1/2-1 teaspoon) Dates add a caramel flavor (2-4 medium sized) Both Vitamin D gel caps and Vitamin B-12 tablets can be added without affecting flavor or color. Instructions: Add 5 ½ cups water and slivered almonds to blender. Start blending on low, transition to high as nuts being to emulsify. Blend for 3 minutes on highest setting.
