Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Wednesday asked lawmakers to increase fines that can be levied for sewage spills by 50 percent. The proposal would apply to all polluters, including local municipalities and private businesses. The increasingly rare North Atlantic right whale is in danger, and its fate has always been left to humans. These lovely creatures have been hunted almost to the brink of extinction, and their popluation is declining sharply again. The Coast Guard has issued a safety bulletin following the California boat fire that killed 34 people. They are suggesting commercial boat operators restrict unsupervised charging of cellphones and other electronic devices. On Thursday, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued a preliminary report on the fire that destroyed the dive ship Conception near Santa Cruz Island on Labor Day.
