Denmark buys country’s last remaining circus elephants to let them retire

The government of Denmark plans to ban wild animals in circuses later this year. Just four circus elephants are remaining in the country, and they plan to spend $1.6 million to buy them to give them a proper retirement. Mogen Jensen, Food and Fisheries Minister, said there are no immediate plans as to where to put the elephants, named Ramboline, Lara, Djunga, and Jenny. Reuters: Japan will have to dump radioactive water into the sea, minister says

Japan’s environment minister said on Tuesday that Tokyo Electric Power will soon run out of room to store the radioactive water from its destroyed Fukushima nuclear power plant, and they will now have to dump it into the Pacific Ocean. EPA Takes Major Step Toward Ending Animal Testing

On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would stop conducting or funding studies on mammals by 2035. The agency stated it would devote $4.25 million for five universities to research and develop alternative methods for assessing chemical safety that doesn’t involve animal testing.
