In a prespecified analysis, we found a similar risk of herpes zoster among statin users in the subgroup of patients with diabetes (hazard ratio 1.18, 95% confidence interval 1.09 to 1.27). As expected, we found no association between statin use and knee arthroplasty (hazard ratio 1.04, 95% confidence interval 0.99 to 1.09). Conclusions. Among older patients, treatment with statins is associated with a small but significantly increased risk of herpes zoster.” [emphasis added] While a 13% increase in the relative risk of developing shingles in statin users may seem small, it […]

[…]reverse heart disease. But, new research published in the Journal of Medicinal Food has recently found that adding the herb rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) to your diet can also help treat heart disease. The reason is because compounds naturally found in rosemary have significant anti-inflammatory effects, which is an underlying factor in the condition. There is a growing body of research that links heart disease to systemic low-grade inflammation throughout the blood vessels. So, while rosemary has been traditionally used throughout history in the treatment of headaches, memory and epilepsy, research shows it may also be a natural medicine for the treatment of heart […]

After washing with detergent, the experimentally inoculated sheets still contained 0 to 9 colony-forming units (cfu) per 25 cm2 swatch. Moreover, previously sterile swatches washed in the load with the experimentally inoculated sheets held 0 to 14 cfu/25 cm2. Thus, the washing not only did not sterilize the original bedsheets but also spread the contamination to other items in the laundry load.”1 The team then repeated the analysis with naturally contaminated sheets laundered at a commercial laundry […]

The researchers found that the size of the bone growth, present in 33 percent of the population, actually decreased with age. That discovery was in stark contrast to existing scientific understanding, which had long held that the slow, degenerative process occurred with aging. They found instead that the bone spurs were larger and more common among young people. To understand what was driving the effect, they looked to recent developments — circumstances over the past 10 or 20 years altering how young people hold […]
